Come experience the Opening night of Echoes in the Ice, a new exhibit at the Museum of Natural History, on June 6th, 2013 at 7:30pm. Using artifacts, images, audio-visual presentations, and art, Echoes in the Ice: History, Mystery, and Frozen Corpses examines Arctic exploration past and present, profiles the explorers involved in the search for the Northwest Passage, and decodes the mysteries of the lost Franklin Expedition of 1845. Echoes in the Ice promotes the rich connections between science, technology, and culture in a unique and educational manner. A co-production of Gone West Productions and the Canada Science and Technology Museum, with the generous support of Natural Resources Canada and Parks Canada Agency. This exhibit is officially open from June 8th, 2013 until September 2013.

Hope For Wildlife Becomes A Play! - Reading ( All Day )

Written by Halifax playwright Kristen Slaney, it will have its first public reading Saturday, June 8, at 1:00 pm at Neptune Theatre as part of the two-week Stages Theatre Festival for families. Complete line-up available at http://www.easternfronttheatre.com/index.php/stages-theatre-festival/supernova-next/ Hope for Wildlife is one of four new plays for young audiences being created by emerging writers with help from Halifax Theatre for Young People and Neptune Theatre. Its reading as a work in process will be by professional actors in Neptune’s studio theatre. Based on true stories and inspired by the award-nominated book of the same title by Ray MacLeod, Hope for Wildlife is a play about people who care for nature against all odds. When eight year old Jules moves with her mother to Seaforth, she meets a woman named Hope, who runs a nearby farm specializing in wildlife rescue. Jules will learn that even in a place built for helping, there are still obstacles, and people, that stand in the way.
